Why I chose these quotes:
Literally speaking, if there is no rain, then no vegetation will grow. The storms in this quote could refer to challenges you face or circumstances you may struggle with, or even our own imperfections. Let's take imperfections for example. We must learn to embrace our own imperfections because that is what makes us who we are, and what makes us unique. I know that is hard to embrace - believe me I know - but if we embrace who we are, who knows what will happen.
Thank you for taking time to read this post,
Please do not forget to send me any suggestions you would like me to blog about.
I am open to any new suggestions.
Thank you!
My blog in this post will be all about health and nutrition.
I have made a pledge to myself that this year; I will be a
lot healthier than what I was in the past. Let me begin by sharing with you the
past relationship I had with food and fitness workouts, and how I came to
actually accept this relationship and take it to the next level. I will also
try to make this blog short and sweet, and to the point.
In the past – to keep this short and sweet – I ate foods
that were mostly high in sugar, and I did tend to eat processed foods at fast
food restaurants/take-away places. I was very bad with food. All I mostly wanted was
the sweet stuff and the fries from the take-away places, I didn’t even mind
having ice-cream or a chocolate bar first thing in the morning. At times
though, I would go completely off sugar foods which I know now you cannot do as
quickly as this process takes time. I also, at
times, went through what I would call a “health stage” where I would eat
healthier foods, but this lasted at most about 2 weeks.
When I was younger, I never liked to exercise. It was one
thing I didn’t enjoy doing, and I did groan and moan that I didn’t want to
exercise, yet I took part in my school’s sports day running and swimming galas. This was mainly to just participate on the sports days.
I did though for 1 month take an exercise programme titled “Adventure Boot Camp
for women” with my mother. I did notice a difference in my body shape taking
this challenge, but it was not what I wanted to achieve because my eating
wasn’t as healthy. (Tip: You must eat healthy as well as exercise to achieve your fitness goals).
To be fare though, I did eat fruit and vegetables as well,
and I did eat healthy foods, but very seldom.
This year however, it is all about healthy eating and all
about fitness.
What I look liked before starting my fitness journey.
I started to get very serious about being fit in May last
year. One particular actor helped inspire me to get into fitness – I
will keep the name a secret for now. Every time I looked into the mirror, I
couldn’t stand that my stomach was not how I wanted it to be, and that I was
not happy with my body at all. If I went for a run or even running on my school’s
sports field, I would be out of breath, very tired, nauseated and
also low in energy. I didn’t eat the right foods, nor did I drink the right
liquids (turns out water is the healthiest drink to have). That is why I
decided to be a lot more healthier and incorporate eating healthy and exercising
into my everyday life, and make it a lifestyle.
I actually got more into health and fitness when my mother
spoke to me about it. She is the main reason why I wanted to be fit, healthy
and strong. My mother told me that one needs to stay as strong and healthy as
they can be throughout their life.(She really gives great advice about health).
If you are new to exercising and not sure where to start,
perhaps do workouts 3 days a week (You can search for a workout on YouTube or Google), up until you know you can do 6 days a week.
I workout 6 days a week as one does need to have a rest day to rest their body
before going back into working out again.
Here is an example of the type of exercises I do for 6 days
a week:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday – 5 Toning workouts, 3 sets - meaning I do the workout 3 times.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – Cardio and/or HIIT
workouts. One of the easiest cardio workouts for beginners is running and
walking. Enjoy the outdoors!
Sometimes though, I do add some other workouts in the day. Why
do you ask? It is fun and I love the workouts I do!
One day in the week, I would go for a run/walk, or I would
do yoga instead. My aim is to workout 6 days of the week. On Sunday I would do a
quick morning workout, and then maybe some yoga and then that is it, nothing
that stresses my body out. On rest days you can either do a little workout if
you wish, or you can relax for the day as your body needs to recover and so that you feel refreshed the next day.
I feel a lot more confident with my body now than what I had felt at the beginning of last year.
There are literally no excuses to not exercise. I do
understand there are people in this world that are super busy – even on
weekends. What could be suggested is follow a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)
workout.
Here are some excuses people make to get out of exercising,
and the solutions:
·“I have no time” – You can do a 4 minute HIIT
workout. You can even do squats for 4 minutes.
·“My muscles are sore” – Stretch your muscles and
do a warm up before you exercise.
·“I am too tired” – Are you getting at least 7-8
hours of sleep every night? Also exercising gives you more energy.
·“I cannot afford to go to a gym” – You do not
need a gym to workout. You can work out in your own house, or go outdoors.
·“I don’t want to work out” – Find exercises you
enjoy. If you don’t like doing squats or jumping, then go for a run or walk, or
even dance around.
·“I have children” – As do millions of mothers
out there, yet they find time to exercise. Children can actually become your
motivation rather than your excuse by showing them what excises you do. You can
even tell them to do the workouts with you and make it fun for both you and your children.
There are a lot more excuses out there, but rather find a
solution instead of just making up excuses. Everyone in this world is busy with
their own lives, and yet they find time to exercise. Believe me; no one will
judge you with the exercises you choose. They will in fact compliment you with
your fitness journey. Also, find people who will help motivate you and have a
positive effect on you. You can even ask a friend or family member to do the
exercises with you.
Another thing you must know is you need to learn self-love.
You need to learn to love your body, accept how your body figure looks (Nobody's physique looks exactly the same as another person's body figure), and take care of your body. Your body is
your own, and you need to listen to what your body says. I know it’s hard. I
even find it hard, but I am learning to accept how my body looks and feels. I
also say listen to your body as your body does give you a message when it is
feeling tired, and sometimes when your tummy grumbles, your body could just be thirsty and
not hungry.
The best part of eating healthy is that you can experiment
with many foods and make up your own unique dishes you find fulfilling.
Here are 4 healthy recipe ideas you can make in your
free time:
Place all the ingredients in a jar, mix all the ingredients, then place into the fridge and leave overnight. You can use more than 1/2 cup of almond milk if you want to. You just have to have enough to cover the rolled oats.
The next day, add fruit/nuts/dried fruit to this meal if you wish.
Pictured below on my Instagram page, is the meal dish I made for the no. 1 recipe.
Top with Le Coquin coconut milk dairy-free yoghurt and dried cranberries the next morning - Purchased from Wellness Warehouse
Method:
Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix altogether. If the coconut oil is too hard, you can warm it a bit - for ONLY a few seconds - in the microwave, and then add the coconut oil to your meal dish.
The next morning, you can add the coconut yoghurt and some dried cranberries, or fruit of your choice, to your meal dish.
Pictured below from my Instagram page, is the meal dish I made for the no. 2 recipe.
I warmed up my dish for a few seconds in the microwave the next morning.
1/4 of cucumber chopped - You can add this if you want to.
Method:
In a pan, start by putting the coconut oil in the pan and once the oil has melted, you can get started. Stir-fry the mushrooms first, then add the chopped brinjal. Add the kale, and then sprinkle veggie spice and the cayenne pepper on the mushrooms and brinjal. Before the brinjal and mushrooms are cooked, add the spinach and cauliflower noodles. Once all is cooked, place on a plate and you can top the meal dish with cucumber, like I did.
Pictured above is the meal dish I made for no. 3 recipe.
Add the chia seeds and Wazoogles superfood protein powder to the coconut yoghurt and then add nuts and dried cranberries for topping if you wish.
I was actually in a rush one morning, so I put all of the
ingredients into the coconut yoghurt cup.
Pictured above is my on-the-go meal for the No. 4 recipe
It is not expensive to eat healthy. You can still eat fruit
every day, as well as vegetables. The best is roast vegetables; they are super
tasty and can go literally with any dish at dinner time. The main goal is to
eat clean and as healthy as you can. Another food substance you must try to
avoid is sugar. Sugar is really bad for you, and you should try to stay off it
as much as possible (if you can, try to stay off sugar at least 3 – 5 days a
week). If you want a sugary food, have it in moderation and do not get carried
away with eating a lot of sugary foods. In truth, I do have sugary foods, but
it is rarely and I have it in moderation and no, you will not pick up a lot of
weight by eating one slice of cake if you have been eating healthy for weeks.
On the rare occasion yes, you can treat yourself to something sweet, but it is
best to treat yourself to a spa day or something like that, as you won’t be
focusing on sweet treats. If you really want that sweet dessert, you can eat
it, but do not go overboard. Remember, you are taking care of your body.
For those who are looking for quick and easy workouts to do,
might I suggest this wonderful fitness lady: Lucy Wyndham-Read. On her YouTube
channel are 4 minute HIIT workouts. You read that right, just 4 minutes a day.
You can do more workouts if you wish, but if you are a busy bee then these 4
minute HIIT workouts are perfect for you.
To make your body shape to how you want it; you must add
nutritional foods, and foods that’ll keep you fuller for longer. I would highly
suggest looking at this lovely lady’s website, Caralishious. She has so many
recipes on her website that it is hard not to try any of her recipes. There are
recipes for on-the-go meals to breakfast meals to even healthy snacks you can
eat during the day. All of Caralishious’s recipes are mostly natural
ingredients, clean eating foods and organic foods as well. She is my go-to
if I need to look up healthy recipes or find inspiration for meal dishes.
Caralishious also has blogs about self-love – which you should go read – and
among other blogs that’ll help you with your healthy lifestyle and fitness journey.
For those of you interested in Lucy-Wyndham-Read’s videos,
you can click HERE to view her YouTube channel. Lucy Wyndham-Read has over 20
years of experience in the fitness industry and is ex-army, and also has great
nutrition tips and clean eating recipes to help you as well.

delicious and healthy recipes, you can click HERE to go to her official website.
Caralishious also has healthy vegan coconut ice-cream out in health stores such
as Wellness Warehouse, which you can purchase from R39.99, and it is well worth
the money.
Both Caralishious and Lucy Wyndham-Read are very inspiring women who are all about your own health and wellbeing. I highly recommend viewing their websites to see what advice, recipes and health tips they give you on their pages.
Pictured above is the Caralishious Peanut Butter flavoured ice-cream.
I am still learning more and more about health and fitness,
and what is great is I am still learning new things I never knew before. The
best part about any industry you want to pursue is learning new things each
day.
I will definitely be posting more blogs on health and
nutrition in the near future. I want to start blogging about health and fitness
because many people are really interested in this, and some people also want to
know about this specific industry. I will try and cover as much of this
industry as I can.
I hope everyone enjoyed reading this blog, and that it’ll maybe
inspire you to go out there and start getting fit and healthy.
Thank YOU for taking the time to read this blog, it really
means so much to me!
Hello to every single person all around the world! It is the end of 2016 which just went by so quickly. I can still remember gathering Easter presents way back in March, and then also seeing the movie Allegiant as well with my best friend Erin. This year was a good year, and had great beginning as well, but was very sad at the end of this year...
Now to get on with business, here are some highlights that happened during the course of this year:
The brand new app Pokemon GO was released this year, and was a huge success. People can now get the app on their phone, go outside and walk around to either hatch an egg they received from a PokeStop, or battle at a Gym, or walk with a Pokemon and do so much more on the app. People who always watched the anime show and played the Pokemon trading card game, can now finally be their own trainer and go out and be the very best...like no one ever was! (I am one of them!).
The Pokemon Sun and Moon game was released in November 2016, and this game is set in the Alola region.
Donald Trump won the US Presidential Election this year.
ABC Family officially changed their name to FreeForm in January this year.
The two-part play titled "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" was released as a book for Harry Potter fans to read in July this year. This book seemed to be one of the highly anticipated books to read this year.
In September, Disney announced that the popular ride titled "The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror" will have it's last day in January 2017, and will be replaced with a "Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission: BREAKOUT" ride in summer 2017.
Captain America: Civil War was a critical and a commercial success, grossing over $1 billion, which made this film the highest grossing film for 2016, as well making this film the 12th highest grossing film of all time. This film also is the 4th highest grossing superhero film of all time.
In March, a suicide blast in Gulshan-e-Lqbal Park, Lahore killed 75 people and injured about 340 others with a militant Sunni Islamic organisation, claiming responsibility for targeting Christians celebrating Easter.
In June, the United Kingdom voted in a referendum to leave the European Union.
In August, the 2016 Summer Olympics was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The terrible news of a gorilla by the name of Harambe was fatally shot in an attempt to protect a 4 year old boy, who had fallen 12 feet into the enclosure of Harambe.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium released 29 sea turtles in 2016.
Dunkin Donuts opened for the first time in South Africa.
Starbucks opened in South Africa for the first time.
This year, there was a reboot of the well-known Cartoon Network series, The Powerpuff Girls. To celebrate the reboot, there was an online app that allowed you to customize your very own Powerpuff girl - or boy - on the Internet and share your avatar with your friends or on social media.
Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar Award for Best Actor.
2016 Deaths:
Sadly, this year seemed to be the year of quite a few deaths. All these talented and outstanding people passed away this year. Here are some of the people who sadly passed away this year:
David Bowie; Curtis Hanson; Harper Lee; Garry Shandling; Ken Howard; Anton Yelchin; Alan Rickman; Leonard Cohen; Garry Marshall; Doris Roberts; Prince; Robert Vaughn; Kenny Baker; Gene Wilder; George Michael; Carry Fisher and Carrie's mother, Debbie Reynolds.
It is tragic to hear and see such fantastic actors/writers/singers pass away...it is truly sad, and my heart goes out to every single one of these talented people's family and friends. I am truly sorry for your loss.

On a more personal note:
This year, I decided to do something with my body and instead of having mostly, sugary and fatty foods this year, I have decided to become a lot more healthier and started doing exercises. I have become a lot more health conscious. This year, I decided I needed to be more healthier, and taking extra care of what I put into my body. There is the old saying "What you put in is what you will get out", and the other saying "You are what you eat". At first, I didn't know where to begin, what workouts to do, what I was capable of. I literally had no idea what to do first. The day I decided to get more fit and healthy, my mother told me about a lady who has written books about workouts and nutrition, and told me this lady had started a group, in April, called "Lucy's Squad", where you can follow 4 minute HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts everyday. This lady's name is Lucy Wyndham-Read, who is a YouTube trainer, and who posts real-time videos on YouTube with workouts for the "Lucy's Squad" group to do. At first I was a bit uncomfortable doing these workouts, but after about a month or so, I started to actually enjoy these workouts, and everyday I looked forward to a new workout all the time- and I still do! The truth is, I started in May with Lucy Wyndham-Read's 100 rep workouts, and after this challenge, I started taking on more challenges as the days went by. One thing I noticed is that whenever you start to do workouts, take a Before and After picture, to help you. You do not need to show anyone your photos if you don't wish to, it is simply for your own benefit, and to see how far you have come since you started your fitness journey. What is so amazing about Lucy Wyndham-Read's videos is that you can do them absolutely anywhere - no gym required! I considered maybe going to a gym, but it turns out you don't really need a gym to do Lucy's workouts. I am also proud to be apart of "Lucy's Squad" as I have been featured in 2 of Lucy Wyndham-Read's YouTube videos, and that is a goal achieved for me! In November, there were workout challenges, but Lucy Wyndham-Read also posted about eating clean (This is when you eat whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy proteins and fats). When I became a vegetarian, I taught myself to read labels. This is a great tool to use because it is always good to read the food labels as you can see what you are consuming into your body. Lucy Wyndham-Read also helped me to enter a competition called "USN Face of Fitness". Although I didn't make it to the top 32, that didn't put me down or make me feel upset. This actually motivated me more to keep staying as fit and as healthy as I can be. I also go running at least once a week, and Lucy Wyndham-Read also helped me with this as well as I feel more confident now to go out into the outdoors and go walking/running. Walking/running can help you a lot and what is nice is when you go in the outdoors, you can have a beautiful scenery to look at. I workout 5 days a week and the 6th day is a walking/running day.
Lucy Wyndham-Read is a fitness expert and is Ex-Army, and has more than 20 years experience in health and in fitness.
Another person I have discovered who has a blog about nutrition and wellness is Caralishious. Caralishious is an entrepreneur and wellness consultant, and a nutrition blogger who dedicates to balanced living through the nourishment of the mind and the body. Caralishious has blogs that show you how to optimise your health and well being with her delicious recipes and her blogs about how to practise self love toward yourself, like how to love yourself for who you are and build a good self-esteem for yourself. I discovered Caralishious when I purchased the ice-cream, and I discovered this ice-cream was actually healthy for you and is completely vegan. I then went onto Caralishious website and I spent quite a while reading her blogs about health and how to build a good self-esteem. The recipe's on Caralishious website are also healthy for you as you use organic products and whole foods to make the meal dishes. There are recipes for dinner, lunch and breakfast time, as well as if you are on-the-go and need to make something quickly. What is great about these recipes is you know it is healthy for you and you don't need to feel guilty eating these food dishes as they will be fuel for your body, and I am sure your body will be happy to have these foods.

The products I have used that have helped me stay fit and healthy is USN products - mostly the protein shakes - and Herbex products. Herbex is a definite must look at if you want loose weight. USN products, to me, are more for body building, but the products do work. Herbex products is more natural products as some of their products contain a formulation of 4 herbs which help assist with weight-loss, increasing your metabolism and burn calories. I have used the USN Phedra Cut Lipo XT, but it didn't work out for me, I use Herbex products now, and I feel it has helped me with weight-loss and has helped me keep fit. I also mostly drink water nowadays - plus the Herbex fat burn concentrate drink - and I stay away from the soda drinks and fruit juices when I can as they do contain sugar.
Photos of me during my progress of getting into a healthier lifestyle in 2016.
Last year, I was told that I can adopt a cat, and I have the most beautiful and precious kitty cat in the world! Her is name is Eevee. I decided on this name because it fit her perfectly. She is such a beautiful cat and I love her so much! We also welcomed a new dog to our family, and he is...Emmet the pug! We also have another dog by the name of Leo who is an awesome dog as well! Our animals really are good animals, maybe a bit energetic at times, but they are all good animals.
Left: My beautiful cat Eevee. Middle: Emmet the pug! Right: Leo.
This year marks 3 years being a vegetarian for me, and it feels good! I consider myself 85% vegan as the foods I make myself are vegan, it is only when I visit people's houses that I may eat vegetarian food there. Also, the restaurants I go to cater more for vegetarians than vegans, but I do hope all the restaurants will cater for vegan people soon.
What annoys me though with regard to this lifestyle, is that sometimes on restaurant menu's or at some event, there is absolutely - and I mean absolutely - nothing for people who don't eat meat. This isn't good as some people don't want animal meat, or someone is allergic to dairy, and at these events or restaurants, they have nothing for the people with food allergies. This doesn't happen often, but at some places this does happen, and it does annoy me.
One other thing while on this subject, it is always good to help the environment, regardless if you are a vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan or whatever you are. There is indeed, only so much one person can do to help the environment and animals. A person cannot do absolutely everything to help the environment, but that person is doing something by maybe not using a car to go to work, or by not consuming any animal products, or by being an activist. These are all great things to do, and keep doing them if it makes you happy, but remember...there is only so much one person can do to help out.
Lastly, if you are wanting to go vegan, then you should maybe take on the Veganuary challenge in January where you are completely vegan for the whole month of January. It is amazing to do as you can explore with food and see what meals you can make up. You can also enjoy vegan ice cream for the summer times. Fry's Food has recently released quite a few new flavors of vegan ice cream. Another person who has created a healthy and vegan ice cream is Caralishious. Her ice creams tastes super delicious and they are healthy for you as well.
This year I also read all 6 books of the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, as well as the whole trilogy of the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, plus the book Four: A Divergent Collection. All I can say is...I did not know what I was missing out on. These books were highly addictive, and I could not put these book down! I had to know what happened right up until the end. It was like when I read the Harry Potter books. It is un-put-downable - if that is even a word. After I heard about the movie Allegiant and that it was out in cinemas, I decided to start reading Divergent, the first book, and I absolutely loved the book. It took me not even a week before I finished this book, and then it was onto the 2nd book Insurgent, and then finally, Allegiant. The 3rd book was sad at the end, and I did cry a little, but I did enjoy these books, they were definitely a good read. I also went onto reading Four: A Divergent Collection book, and even this book I just couldn't put down. My absolute favourite Divergent series books had to be both Insurgent, as well as Allegiant. My favourite book from the Mortal Instruments had to be the 6th book, City of Heavenly Fire. I will definite be re-reading these books over and over again. The same goes for the Harry Potter books as well. I am glad to have read all these books, and I still have to finish the Peary Jackson books plus all of Cassandra Clare's other books, but it will be done.
